Construction on a four-storey block of flats that will provide much-needed council homes for residents in the borough has begun.
Slough Borough Council is building 11 one and two bedroom apartments on the site of some old homes and garages in Eschle Court, Elliman Avenue.
The £2.1m development will be delivered by Slough Urban Renewal (SUR) on behalf of Slough Borough Council.
The flats are expected to be ready for occupation by summer 2017.
Helping those in need
Councillor Zaffar Ajaib, commissioner for housing and urban renewal, said: “We currently have more than 2,100 households on our housing waiting list, with nearly 300 living in temporary accommodation. So these apartments will be a welcome addition to the council’s social housing stock, providing excellent quality homes for people who need them the most.
“This project is particularly exciting because it’s the first time we’re working with SUR to redevelop some of our smaller land sites, many of which are in desperate need of regeneration but would be less lucrative to larger property developers.
“This gives us the opportunity to build some much-needed homes while helping to regenerate the borough.
“This is all part of our long-term commitment to providing more good quality homes for residents, whether they’re in need of social housing or a decent rental property.”
Slough Urban Renewal LLP (‘SUR’) is a 50:50 joint venture between Slough Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments Limited, part of the Morgan Sindall Group plc. Its purpose is to deliver ambitious objectives to transform the borough of Slough for all.
