SUR to develop over 120 new council homes on 24 small sites throughout the borough

Slough Urban Renewal has been commissioned to build over 120 much-needed new council homes on twenty-four smaller pockets of land throughout the SL1, SL2 and SL3 postcodes, on behalf of Slough Borough Council.

As part of the town’s regeneration plan and to help meet the needs of the 2,100 households currently on the housing waiting list, the local authority has proactively identified a number of small sites which are in need of regeneration, including garages, infill sites and side gardens.

Slough Urban Renewal will be providing high quality homes and communities for local people in need of housing that make the most of their local settings. The first project has already begun; the construction a four storey block of 11 one and two-bedroom apartments on the site of some old homes and garages in Eschle Court, Elliman Avenue, which will be ready for occupation by summer 2017.

Alastair Gourlay at Slough Urban Renewal said, “This project is a shining example of urban renewal at its absolute best. As well as creating entire new communities on the larger sites in Slough, we are ensuring that every viable piece of land that is ripe for regeneration is put to good use, delivering desperately needed new council homes for families in our community. These 120 new homes in Slough are already in the pipeline but we’re working on securing further new sites going forward.”

Boosting our social housing stock

Councillor Zaffar Ajaib, commissioner for housing and urban renewal at Slough Borough Council, added, “This project is particularly exciting because this is the first time we’re working with our delivery partner SUR to redevelop some of our smaller land sites, boosting our supply of council homes while helping regenerate and improve the borough. With more than 2,100 households currently on the housing waiting list, including nearly 300 living in temporary accommodation, it’s vital that we take a thorough and imaginative approach to boosting our social housing stock.”

Slough Urban Renewal is also delivering a range of new homes for sale and private letting, our next development of houses for sale in Slough is set to be Wexham Green.
