18 new council homes completed

Eighteen families from the council’s housing waiting list will be packing their bags and moving into brand new homes in the coming week.

A whole street of homes – named Foxglove Close – has been handed to the council and they will be allocated as soon as possible to waiting families.

All the properties are family-sized homes of two and three bedrooms including one bungalow that has been specifically designed and built to meet the needs of a tenant with disabilities.

The properties are all part of the Wexham Green development – a brand new estate of high-specification properties being built on the site of the former Wexham Nursery off Wexham Road. .

Wexham Green is the second major housing development to be created through Slough Urban Renewal (SUR) – a partnership between Slough Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd which is driving regeneration across the town.

When complete, the development will deliver 104 two, three and four bedroom homes, including 34 affordable properties.

Councillor Mohammed Nazir, cabinet member of housing, said: “Housing is at a premium in Slough and none more so than affordable homes.

“We promised to build more and better council homes for people on our housing waiting list and these 18 properties are perfect.

“With new homes in our small sites such as the old Lynch Pin public house, developments like Lydia Court and homes in larger developments like Milestone and now Wexham Green we are building new council homes at a rate not seen in decades; more and faster than most other local authorities.

“I hope the families moving in enjoy their new homes for many years to come.”

Andy Howell, general manager of Slough Urban Renewal, said: “The partnership between the council and Morgan Sindall Investments which created SUR was to drive regeneration – but also speed up development of housing, in particular affordable housing, Slough desperately needs.

“We are proud to be handing over these fantastic properties in this stunning estate and we look forward to seeing the tenants settling in and making the most of their homes and gardens.”
